Fantastically beautiful rows of lavender, swaying lazily in the wind, occupy the northern part of Provence. The total area of all the lavender fields amounts to nearly 20,000 hectares. Farms in France grow lavender in 120 settlements. This amazing plant blooms from June to August. The best time to visit these fields is in July, when the lavender is in full bloom. However, blooming times vary by location. For example, in the Luberon region and the Rhône Valley, lavender begins to bloom in mid-June, while on the Valensole Plateau and in Drôme Provençale, blooming starts in early July. The Valensole Plateau is one of the most famous and extensive lavender-growing areas. The area of these fields is 800 square kilometers. The purple sea is intertwined with rows of wheat, gently transitions into olive groves, and is complemented by almond trees.
Santa Luce Hills (Italy)
In the Italian region of Tuscany, there are many places where one can enjoy the blooming of lavender. The purple fields stretch from Maremma and Massarosa to the hills of Chianti Fonterutoli and Castellina. Against this backdrop, the blooming purple hills of Santa Luce look magnificent. Over the past decade, many abandoned fields have been planted with lavender, which has helped attract many tourists to the region. One such experiment was carried out in the hills of Pisa in Santa Luce as part of the “La Valle Dei Profumi” project. Local farmers demonstrate to visitors various stages of lavender processing – from harvesting to steam distillation, all the way to obtaining essential oils. The tourist route includes a lavender photo session, an electric bike ride, a relaxing massage, and watching the sunset in the fields.
Kuyucak (Turkey)
According to experts, the Turkish Provence, namely the Kuyucak region, has no less charm than the lavender fields in France. A visit to the “Turkish Provence” is recommended for many tourists. The easiest way to reach the lavender fields is from Antalya. Located in the southwest of the country, near the city of Isparta, the Turkish Provence is known as the place of a thousand roses or the flower capital of Turkey. Numerous varieties of rose bushes grow here, as well as incredibly beautiful and fragrant lavender. Over 90% of all lavender fields in Turkey are concentrated in Kuyucak. They begin blooming in early July, filling the air with a wonderful fragrance, and the blooming period lasts no more than three weeks.
Castle Farm (United Kingdom)
Castle Farm, founded in 1892, is the largest lavender producer in the United Kingdom. It is located in the rural area of Kent County, not far from the picturesque village of Shoreham. In the summer months, from June to September, many tourists come here to see the unique lavender fields. During a walk, one can take photographs, including on the special lavender bench. Travelers can enjoy magnificent views of the purple sea. Some of the 100,000 lavender varieties grow on the local farm. Also, in the United Kingdom, there is Cotswold Lavender, fields in Gloucestershire where 35 types of lavender are grown. The farm includes a facility where the harvested crop is processed into oil. In the United Kingdom, there are also the Hitchin Lavender fields, located in Ickleford, near the town of Hitchin. According to experts, these are among the most picturesque lavender fields in the world. The best time to visit the fields is from late June to mid-July.
Furano (Japan)
The endless purple fields of Furano are located in Hokkaido Prefecture (Japan). They attract tourists with a unique, colorful landscape and an unforgettable aroma. In addition to lavender, poppies, sunflowers, lilies, and lupines grow here. The lavender fields of Furano, located in Hokkaido Prefecture, attract thousands of tourists every summer who hurry to enjoy an unforgettable spectacle. Many other flowers complement this magnificent landscape. This eclectic mix of colors gives Furano a unique appearance. The best place to admire the lavender is Tomita Farm, where the combination of lavender fields and rugged mountains creates a fantastic view.
