2026.09.0104:42:55UTC+00Dutch Inflation Rate Rises to 3.3%

The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands edged up to a three-month high of 3.3% in August 2026, from 3.2% in July, according to preliminary estimates. The uptick was largely driven by faster price growth in energy, including motor fuels, where inflation accelerated to 11.7% from 9.7% in July, as global energy prices remained elevated amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Inflation for industrial goods excluding energy and motor fuels also picked up, rising to 1.4% from 1.2%. In contrast, price dynamics weakened in other categories: inflation for food, beverages, and tobacco fell to -0.5% from 0%, indicating an outright decline in prices, while inflation for services eased to 3.7% from 4.0%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.3% in August, a notable slowdown from the 1.6% surge recorded in July. The index for consumption abroad climbed 7.4% year-on-year, accelerating from a 4.8% rise in the previous month.

HICP-based annual inflation, which excludes owner-occupied housing costs, eased to 2.8% in August from 3.0% in July, signaling a slight moderation in underlying price pressures despite the renewed strength in energy prices.
